Summer Reading Stuffed Animal Sleepover

This summer we held a very special storytime in honor of our 'Dream Big, Read' Summer Reading Program:  a stuffed animal sleepover!  This was the library's third stuffed animal sleepover (see the 1st and 2nd) and you might think, what else could the animals possibly do in the library all by themselves?  Haven't they had enough fun?!

The answer is no.  There is always fun to be found in the library!

First we read stories and sang songs, then we tucked the animals into bed.  They were very cooperative.

What peaceful sleepers.

Did they really sleep, though?

Baby doll time.

"Look, it's me on the TV!"

Swinging from the rafters.

So many magazines.

How do we get in the dollhouse?

Mr. Jake helping with check-outs.

"Let me in!"

"Yeah, let us in!"

Researching snack ideas.

All that exploring makes you thirsty.

And it makes you hungry!

S'mores time!

Toasting the marshmallows just right.

Wolfie and Teddy get the graham crackers ready.

Elmo can't wait for the marshmallows to toast.

Elephant sneaks into the chocolate.

Monster joins the party.

KooKoo Bird snacks on a marshmallow.

What a crazy night!  They didn't sleep at all!  Looks like they are going to need a nap when they get home.  Make sure they brush their teeth, because they ate a lot of sugar while they were at the library.

Thank you for coming!  Look out for our 3rd Annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover in Winter 2013!

There can be only one

It's time for March Madness!

Not that kind of March Madness.  Well, sort of.  It's time for Battle of the Kids' Books 2012.  The idea is based on the basketball tourney, but instead pits one Kids/YA book against another.  A judge (Kid/Teen authors) looks at each match up and sends one to the next round.  The survivors find themselves pitted against a book risen from the grave in the final battle on April 2nd.

Who thought up this brilliant battle?  School Library Journal.  In it's 4th year, this book melee always proves interesting.

Three contenders have already fallen.  Anya's Ghost, Bootleg and The Cheshire Cheese Cat already are gone to the graveyard.  Will one of them return?  Only time will tell.

How about the winners?  Do Amelia Lost, Between Shades of Gray or Chime have the staying power to make it to the end?  Return and find out.  Or visit the YA section at the Henry Ford Centennial Library and see the brackets posted on the wall.

In the meantime, check out the books from the Dearborn Public Library and judge for yourself.

Which book is the baddest?

2nd Annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover

The stuffed animals were at it again last night in the library!

Thirteen stuffed animals spent the night in the library!  First we tucked them into bed.

Then we said goodnight.  Did the animals sleep, though?

They had such a fun time and want to thank you for letting them spend the night!
