Graphic Novels...Not just your favorite comics!

You love reading the comic strips that come on Sunday, right? You've maybe even picked up a book of collected strips from the library.

Well, graphic novels are more than just your favorite characters or a collection of comic strips. They may look like a collection of comic strips, but these are full-length stories told by both pictures and word bubbles. Sometimes the word bubbles are even left out.

But isn't that what picture books are? And aren't those for little kids?

Well, yes to both of those questions. The difference being that graphic novels are much more complex than a picture book.

Come on into the library and check them out.

Meet some new friends like Owly or Babymouse. Some of your favorites like the Time Warp Trio, the Babysitters' Club or the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew have gone graphic. (Hey, remember that the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew fill an SRP bingo square!)

Graphic novels aren't just fiction either. You can find graphic non-fiction too. Dinosaurs, myths and biographies are just some of the non-fiction subjects that have gone graphic. (Wait! There are some more bingo squares to mark off!)

So, visit the bears and go graphic this summer at the Dearborn Public Library!
